All dental implants today are made from the same basic material which is titanium. The reason that all dental implants are fabricated from this metal is because titanium has been shown to be so biocompatible that bone will actually bond to its surface.

Our implant procedure is a surgical placement of an implant or implants into your jaw bone which requires a three to six month healing period before the implant restoration to replace the missing tooth or teeth. During this healing period, the bone grows in and around the titanium implant creating a very strong support. As long as you have enough bone in the area of the missing tooth to facilitate the anchorage of the implants, the result of this procedure is almost certain. Our other implant procedure is the one- or single-step implant. The one-step dental implant requires good bone structure and non-moking and healthy patient. In this case, when placed into the jaw, the implant is levelled with the gum rather than submerged, therefore it is eliminating the need for a second surgical procedure, not to mention additional weeks or months of gum healing a second time. In this case after the implant is in the jaw, and the cover screw is exposed through the gum. A healing abutment or abutement post is immediately attached to each implant during this single stage treatment procedure. In some cases temporary replacement teeth may be secured to the abutment while waiting for the implant surgery to heal. After healing, a permanent crown or bridge or prostheses, will be attached. This procedure needs a visit of minimum 14 days.

 

The procedure of building up the bone is known as bone grafting. Bone grafting is a common and safe procedure with dental implants. If your jawbone isn't thick enough or is too soft, you may need bone grafting before you can proceed with dental implant surgery. A bone graft can create a much more solid base for the implant, but it may take six to nine months to grow enough new bone to support a dental implant. In some cases, you may need only minor bone grafting that can be done at the same time as the implant surgery. The condition of your jawbone determines how you can proceed.

 

Of course there are some cases and illnesses when implants are not the solution. Also smoking increases the chance of failure of anchorage of the implant.

 

The treatent of implant is of course followed by a few follow-up visits to check functionality and make sure you are completely satisfied with your new teeth.
